**Foster Spotlight: Mary Burmeister**
This November, we celebrate Mary Burmeister, an exceptional foster volunteer. In December 2023, while dropping off donations at the shelter, she was drawn to some playful pups and learned from shelter director Paul about the need for homes for dogs over the holiday.
Mary, an experienced foster, took home a lively cattle dog named Gomer for what was supposed to be a short stay. However, Gomer (now Jax) quickly captured her heart and became a permanent family member.
Since then, Mary has fostered eight more dogs through K9 Konnection, including those needing long-term medical care. She dedicates herself to preparing each dog for their forever home, with Jax helping to teach the newcomers.
Mary’s contributions extend beyond fostering; she has built lasting relationships with families who adopted her fosters, even pet-sitting for some. She actively volunteers at adoption events, sells raffle tickets, transports dogs, and helps clean the shelter.
